I’ve been reviewing television shows for longer than I can remember so believe me when I say that ‘New Girl’ is WITHOUT A DOUBT… a television show.
There are characters, there is a storyline and dare I say it there are even episodes.
However if I was to point out one issue with the show, it would have to be one which I believe to be the elephant in the room.
This girl is TOO new!
At first I thought,
“WOW now THAT is a new girl”
but as time passed, the level of new began to rise beyond my comfort zone.
As I said, I have seen many shows in my time. Some with girls that are new and some with girls that have been around for a while but I can honestly say that this show pushes the envelope a bit too much.
I know what you’re thinking; “But Ross, the show is called ‘New Girl’. What did you expect??”
And while I do believe that the show delivers on its promise for a new girl, there are points during the shows run that leaves the audience thinking;
“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! It’s time to draw the line”
I myself can point out multiple occurrences during my viewing of throwing my remote across the room and screaming at the top of my lungs
“MOTHER OF GOD WHERE DOES IT END! SHE’S TOO NEW. SHE’S JUST TOO NEW.”
Before whimpering my evening away in the fetal position as I do most evenings.
I even went so far as to conduct research into the laws surrounding the subject at my local library. “How new is too new?” “Had this girl crossed the line?” “Could the studio be liable?” “Would I be entitled to compensation for the trauma I had endured from witnessing such a novel and contemporary girl??”
Alas it seems that our legal system is quite behind in terms of dealing with the extremities of the new girls that the public is being exposed to. It makes one think: What are we? Animals?
However, I digress.
As a show, New Girl is certainly breaking boundaries. Sometimes I would sit and watch it…
And watch it.
Sorry I meant to say “Sometimes I would sit and watch it.” That was the end of the sentence.
This show also plays host to a wide array of other characters. While not all are new girls, I can confirm that all,
and I mean all
are portrayed by actors.
As a man who has without a doubt watched New Girl, I would recommend that you also watch it because like I said… I have definitely watched New Girl.
To conclude, if there was one thing that New Girl left me wondering, it was
“Whatever happened to the old girl? Now THAT was a girl!”
